Waterproofing questions, answered plainly
Fourteen years on Queensland sites means we hear the same questions most weeks. Here are the honest answers. If yours is not below, call 0466 394 039 and ask a licensed applicator directly.
Getting started
What areas do you service?
All of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, plus the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay and Toowoomba. Projects outside these areas are considered case by case, so it is always worth asking.
How do I book HydroForce?
The quickest way is to call 0466 394 039 and speak to a supervisor. You can also request a time slot on our booking page or send your project details through the contact page, and we will call you back the same business day.
What are your hours?
Monday to Saturday, 6:30am to 5:00pm. Early starts are normal for us because membrane work is easier in Queensland before the heat of the day.
Do you work with builders, or only homeowners?
Both, and roughly half our work comes from each. Builders and renovation contractors value our staged scheduling and progressive certification. Homeowners value being told plainly what is required and what it costs.
Pricing and quotes
How much does waterproofing cost?
Our services page lists indicative starting prices: from $780 for a bathroom, $480 for a shower and $420 for a laundry. The final figure depends on the wet area size, substrate, number of penetrations and access, which is why we inspect before quoting.
Do you quote over the phone?
No. We can give you a range on the phone, but we do not issue a price without seeing the substrate, the falls and the drainage. A phone quote is a guess, and guesses turn into variations.
Is the quote fixed?
Yes. We issue a written, line by line fixed price scope within 24 hours of the inspection. If we miss something in our own measure, that is on us, not on you.
Are there variations once you start?
Only if the scope itself changes, for example if demolition uncovers rotten sheeting that has to be replaced before we can seal. In that case we stop, show you the issue, and price it before we continue.
The work itself
How long does a wet area take?
A standard bathroom is two visits across about three days: prep, prime, detail and first coat on day one, second coat on day two, then a 24 hour flood test. Laundries are usually two to three days. Showers alone are similar.
Why does the membrane need two coats?
Because a single coat rarely reaches the specified wet film thickness once it dries, and any pinhole becomes a leak path. Two coats cross rolled at ninety degrees give even coverage and a membrane that can flex with the building.
What is a flood test and why does it matter?
We dam the wet area, fill it with water and leave it for 24 hours. If the level drops or water appears anywhere it should not, we have found a fault while it is still cheap to fix. It is the only real proof the system holds before it disappears under tiles.
Can you waterproof over existing tiles?
Sometimes, with the right primer and a sound, well bonded tile surface. It can work in a laundry or a low risk area. We do not recommend it for a shower or where a failure is suspected, because sealing over trapped water just relocates the problem.
Do you fix leaking showers?
Regularly. We inspect first to determine whether the fault is grout, silicone, the waste or the membrane. Where the membrane is intact we can often seal from above with minimal demolition. Where it has failed, we will say so and quote a rebuild.
When can my tiler start?
The morning after the flood test is drained. We are happy to coordinate directly with your tiler and to brief them on where terminations sit so nobody drills through the membrane.
Compliance and warranty
Do you provide a compliance certificate?
Yes, for every completed wet area. You receive an AS 3740 compliance certificate, a photographic record of each stage, the product data and batch details, and your signed warranty, all emailed on the day we finish.
What does the 7 year warranty cover?
It covers our workmanship on the membrane system we installed. It is written, signed and transferable to a new owner, and it sits alongside the manufacturer's product warranty and our public liability cover.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. HydroForce holds the appropriate QBCC waterproofing licence class and carries $20 million public liability cover. Waterproofing is licensed work in Queensland, and using an unlicensed operator can put your Home Warranty cover at risk.
Which standards do you work to?
AS 3740 for internal domestic wet areas such as bathrooms, showers and laundries, and AS 4654 for external above ground areas such as balconies, terraces, podium decks and planter boxes. We only install CodeMark certified systems, strictly to manufacturer specification.
